I haven't seen to much mentioned about these razors. So how are the ones who got one liking or disliking them? Thanks

ATT ready to roll out new SE GEM type razor...
ATT looking to throw their hat in the game with a modern styled SE designed to use the GEM blade. Looks like production units will be available in a couple of weeks. The future is looking real bright for wetshavers in the SE world. Sorry, that I can't post a pic, there's no medium via iPhone for me. Hopefully someone else can on this forum...

Newb Question
I just discovered DE shaving about a month ago and am "in for a penny, in for a pound" at this point, enjoying the ride. Now, what is this single bade and/or injector stuff all about? I need a crash course. GO!

Micromatic Clone Potentially Within Reach
So, there is a little local pharmacy near where I live. They sell GEM razor blades, and, seem to sell them, pretty regularly, at that. I can see where people have bought them. Several packs had been sold between my visit, today, and, my previous visit, a week, or, two ago.
So, I asked the manager if he carried the razor that goes with it? "Yes, of course" was the answer. He said he would order me one, because they happened to be out of stock. He said it would be under 20.
I gave these up, years ago, but, want to try them, once more, just to say I did. Plus, my shaving kit feels incomplete without one. This was the first type of razor I used, when I was about 13. I also learned with a straight razor then, but, razor burn city, with those things, then, and, now.
Man, I am so looking forward to this. Even if I only use it for a little bit, it will have been worth it.

Valet Auto Strop History article
About a year ago, I came across an article somewhere (I don't think it was on one of the main shaving forums) that went into great detail describing every AutoStrop razor and naming its type (VC1, etc.). I thought I had saved it, but can't find it for the life of me. If anyone knows what I might be referring to, please enlighten me. Thanks!!

Best Injector Style Razor??
What are some opinions, on these shaving razors? I have decided to get one, as, I am sure they are more available than the GEM style razors, and, would be easier to use, for night shaving.
Basically, I want a different shaving system for when I go out at night, as opposed to early in the morning. In the morning, I use brush, soap, and, traditional cream. But, that takes too long, at night; it is too much to do. So, I have decided on canned foam (!!), and, an injector style razor, since that seems like it would be the quickest way to shave.

No buzz about the ATT G1?
Hey guys, I'm a dedicated DE shaver and almost never use an SE. Having said that, I am intrigued by the release of the Above The Tie G1 razor, which I believe is the first modern razor that uses standard SE blades.
So I wandered over to this forum to find out opinions about this razor from the SE guys. Imagine my surprise when I see.......*tumbleweeds*.........and hear.......*crickets*..........
What's the deal? Is the razor not yet released? Has nobody tried it? If it has been released and somebody has tried it, what do you think of it? Enquiring minds want to know.

The Rocnel SE-G Gem Razor Preview (Picture Heavy)
Murat shared a few pictures with me this morning and I thought I would post them here. The Rocnel SE-G is a titanium coated stainless steel Gem Razor that will weigh in at 100g with a 90mm length.
The photos show the razor after one titanium coating. They are waiting for the 2nd coating before being shipped to me.

GEM shaving problem
Gents, I seek your combined wisdom, please. I'm growing frustrated with my GEM razors.
Lately, one section on the side of my neck about an inch and a half below my earlobe becomes quite irritated when I shave with a GEM razor three days in a row. Clearly it's my technique.
I've mapped my beard. Only do two SE passes. I use negative pressure, and have tried keeping the cap flat against my skin, changing the angle by making it shallower and/or deeper. By the third shave that one spot actually hurts when the blade makes its pass. It doesn't seem to matter if it's the third, fifth or eighth shave with the blade. By the third consecutive daily shave, it hurts.
This never happens with injectors or DE shaves. I'd hate to give up on my GEMS - they're so good looking!
What are your thoughts?

1912's comparison- small vs more common head
I have posted a few comments on 1912s that I have offered for sale or have seen on the BST. I was asked what dimensions my 1912 was since I called it a small head version. Well, I figured it was about time to do a little explaining. The 1912 is my preferred SE, and yes I have tried a Streamline. Here is a comparison of two different versions of the 1912.
I have seen three variations of the 1912. A small head with a curved cap, a small head with creased cap, and then the more common taller head with creased cap.
I am no expert but these are my beliefs. If I am wrong, please correct me. It is my understanding that Gem produced the 1912 and then other companies (Ever Ready, Star, etc..) started to produce them. I do not know if Gem was purchased or sold the rights to the design.
Here is what I believe to be true.
Gem small head with curved cap was the first produced. These are very very comfortable. Hands down my favorite, although I do not have one as I traded it to another member here
. I believe these to be the first, as I have never seen these produced by any other company beside Gem. Some of these are not stamped Gem on the back. Some of these caps can be seen on the Damaskeene.
Gem small head with creased cap. Later production, and I also have never seen one that isn't a Gem. These commonly have Brooklyn stamped inside. A little more aggressive than the curved head model, but still very comfortable.
Common taller head version- the latest model produced. I have seen these produced by numerous companies including Gem, Star, Ever Ready etc. These are the most aggressive of the bunch but still comfortable. The British version falls into the taller head version. The British model being slightly more aggressive than the US model.
I only have two 1912s left, but I can illustrate the differences (minus the curved cap)
On the left is an Ever Ready British 1912 on the right is a Gem 1912. The Gem pictured may be a curved cap version as it does not have a crease. But I recall the cap on the curved head version to be more pronounced. This may be a 4th version.
The difference being on how tall the head is. I lined up the hinges on these two. Notice how much taller the British 1912 is. It is easily seen when comparing the two dimples/rivets and the distance to where the handle screws in.
Now here is the creased cap I mentioned. The Gem does not have a crease, but isn't as curved as the curved head model I remember. I do not have one to do a direct comparison. You can see how the reflection changes at the crease.
I hope this helps clarifying the difference between some 1912 models.

Rocnel SE-G GEM razor .. WOW.
I received my Rocnel SE-G GEM razor today. I normally wait for at least three shaves before reviewing, however in this case I felt compelled to post after only one shave. Color me impressed!
Packaging : superb.
Finishing : beautifully built and finishing is impressive.
Feel : the razor has a nice heft and is solidly constructed.
Blade loading : easy enough. I watched the video and followed instructions.
Shave : outstanding. 2-pass BBS seriously. I have over 20 vintage GEM/Everready razors and have enjoyed them all. This Rocnel combines the heft and solidity of the Streamline with the efficacy of razors like the 1924 or 1914.
Great job, Rocnel. I look forward to seeing different versions of this fabulous razor!

1981Eagle's Rocnel SE-G Shave report
The shipping was fast - I ordered and received this beauty. Like a kid at Christmas, I went to bed anticipating the morning.
I preped simply by washing my face - I don't do anything elaborate. I wear a van dyke, so I am not shaving my chin or under my nose.
Software - Hardware: The Rocnel SR-G loaded with a Personna GEM stainless. Wolf Whiskers brush with a TGN Finest badger. Proraso sandalwood cream (face lather)
Impression .... there is something very different in this razor from the GEM 1912's and Clog Pruf that I have owned - it's hard to describe. I used to say that progressing from a cart, to a DE to a SE was like going backward in time. The SE had a feel closer to a straight razor than a DE ... and a DE closer than a cartridge. For me, in vintage GEM's they have a 'sound' to them when you shave that sounds like a 'hair popping' and 'scrape' (but it doesnt' feel like a scraping or irritating shave) .... after all that 'set-up' ... that sound is completely gone with the Rocnel. Could be that the weight of the razor and that it's stainless and not stamped brass causes the difference - could be that the way the blade is loaded and secured makes the difference.
First pass is always north to south. That isn't quite with the grain, as my hair grows more of an angle than that, but it isn't perpendicular (across the grain) either. It's sort of a cross between WTG and XTG. I had a bad angle on my right cheek and nicked myself near the mustache edge. I slowed down and finished the first pass without incident.
Re-lather
Second pass is a against the grain (ATG) pass. I typically go slower on this pass anyway and I did this time too. For me - below the jaw line, I want to use nearly no pressure - I petend I am trying to use the blade to remove the shaving cream, but not touch the skin - Impossible - I know ... but it makes me use as little pressure as possible.
Impression - Results: The I believe the aggressiveness of the razor is on par with an ATT R - slightly more blade feel than a Wolfman WR1, much less than my ATT H. Mid-aggressive is the right place to spot it. Other than the nick - which was my fault and cleaned up quickly with a styptic pencil - I got a great shave. I wouldn't say BBS (I have very high standards for that label) but darn close. Above the jaw-line it is as nice a shave (or better) than I get from anything. Below the jaw-line I have some weird hair patterns and it's hard to get a perfect shave - but I believe today's shave was better overall than yesterday's with the WR1.
I don't know if other owners will - but after the shave I removed and dried the blade and cleaned the razor. I'll use it the next few shaves and see how it does after the honeymoon phase has ended .... but I believe it to be a part of the rotation for sure.

Guidance wanted for my first Single Edge razor and blades
Alright, I've been seriously considering selecting and buying my first Single Edge razor and some blades for it. As usual, being new to traditional wet shaving in general, I don't really know where to begin in the selection and buying process. I should probably err somewhat on the mild side rather than the aggressive side I suppose. I also like 1930's style vintage things the most especially when it comes to mens things, so perhaps that might help too.
Thank you
Thank you

They seem to be the most innovative razor company out there right now. All stainless steel and straight out of Turkey. The Adjustable's that they collaborated with Barbaros on are amazing and the new SE-G is on another level. Please post some pics. Great to hear all the feedback regarding the Rocnel SE-G. Having shaved with about 6 different SE razors that take a Gem blade is truly a delight. Having seen two Rocnel SE-G's up for sale on the TSN is not a cause for concern. Will seriously consider ordering one.

Custom stand for my Rocnel SE-G
I had some extra time today, so I spent a little time in the shop.
I wanted to make a razor stand for my new Rocnel SE-G. I didn't have a way to titanium coat it to match. I didn't want it to be made of stainless or brass. So I decided to make it out of 1018 steel and then bead-blast it - then I parkerized it. The parkerizing solution is a manganeze phosphate - it doesn't match exaclty, as it has a little greenish tint to it, but I knew that zinc phosphate would have been worse (too light)
I also decided to mill 6 flats in the bottom base ring. I milled little counting pips on the flats ... blank, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. This serves as a blade usage counter. Load a new blade and rotate the stand so the blank is facing out. Shave, and rotate the stand to the 1 then on, and on. So it counts 5 usages and that's what I like out of my blade before I put in a new one.
This is how it came out.

Shick Proline AC type blades, smoothest
I got in some Schick Proline AC type blades. If you like AC type razors you have to try this blade. It is the smoothest AC type blade I have ever used. With just one shave with them it's to soon to say it's my favorite but they are the smoothest that's for sure.

RazoRock Hawk Stainless Steel
Just got a regular stainless steel and DLC stainless steel Hawk. Wondering if anyone else out there has these. Trying to decide which one I like better. Shaved with the regular SS version and used a Feather Pro blade a few days ago and was not that impressed with the results. Used the DLC version this morning with a Feather Super and got a wonderful BBS. Realizing that the 2 razors that I use a Feather Super blade with are both amazing shavers. The Colonial General Brass and the RazoRock Hawk DLC stainless steel. Any thoughts out there?
