General razor, a copy of the ATT SE1?

I just received a new silver General razor head today and one thing I noticed right away is it looks very much like an ATT SE1 razor. It looks like they copied the same design.
The ATT SE is in the forground.

After a long wait and just in time for the holidays. My Wolfman SB polished brass with Darwin handle arrived. My pictures with my cell phone make it look like it is SS. However, It is really a beautiful golden color. I can't wait for tomorrow morning shave. Happy Holidays to all. Barry

Gunmetal Grey LE OneBlade

A recent visit to the OneBlade website revealed that they are offering a limited edition gunmetal grey Oneblade.

It's much more reasonably priced than the infamous BlackBlade, but there's no image of it on the OneBlade site.

Anyone own one or seen one?

I'd love to see an image of this version...

Open to anyone in Canada. Preferably someone between jobs, or retired.

They are just too efficient for me. I prefer much milder blades, so here's a New Year's gift for you. Cartridge of 20, and I think I used 2. Great way for you to try out and see if you like 'em.

They, of course, are single-edge.

Head is heavyweight. Lovely, comfortable and lightweight handle. That's classy razor.

I'll try it in the evening.

SE razors and TSA - Anyone successful in getting them through

I cant stand wet shaving at home but having to use an electric when I travel (I travel a lot for work). I always carry on my bag.

I know its easy to spot a DE razor blade and they are not permitted.

I am wondering if you guy have any trouble getting a SE Artisan blade through TSA, especially if you leave it in the razor. I am hoping that most TSA screeners are unfamiliar with SE artist club blades, especially if you leave them in the razor they may not think they are removable?

oneblade vs blackbird - comparison

Against my better judgement I recently acquired oneblade.
Ben74 , (I assume) against his better judgement, some months ago parted with his blackbird razor.

After using both - I have developed my opinion. I am not the one who has the skills to write a detailed review but I will say this - blackbird, on its worst day, does just as good a job as oneblade (for me).
I have weird contours on my face and some sensitive skin on my neck. Again - no issues.

Please respond but I would like to request that the focus of this thread remains on the direct comparison of the results of these two razors.

Mongoose V1 confiscated by the lady!

Without resorting to swear words like a common street trollop I have no idea how to express the feelings I have about this appalling betrayal!

I have a Mongoose razor from the end of batch 1.  I like it because with Feather Pro’s it is not very aggressive but good and with Feather Supers it is an aggressive, close shaver.

So my lady picked up a razor and showed me.  She was proud of it but it was light, plasticy and something I had seen before.  None of this makes it a bad razor.  But I gave her my Mongoose with my safe Feather Pro’s and now she has confiscated it.

I probably would not mind as there are several razors now on the market that I would like to try BUT I have over 200 Feather Super’s in my stash which from my understanding will be too aggressive for most.

Also I have to find her a longer handle for the Mongoose!

Hello Nookers,

Looking for affordable handles

Hello,

I am not even sure where to post this.  I am looking for affordable handles.  I have both of the Mongoose handles but my SO is using the Mongoose for leg shaving and would like a lighter, longer handle.  I am assuming aluminum?

I am also looking for interesting but affordable handles in average sizes.

I apologize if there is an area for this but I cannot find it.

I appreciate the help.

Colonial Razor's General Tour

I thought the Asylum Rx Tour would be the last of its kind, but then a new razor hit the market that caught my eye: Colonial Razor's General. As an all-aluminum razor it is more affordably priced than its stainless steel brethren, and on the spectrum of single edge razors I find it to be one of the mildest, but incredibly efficient. For those sitting on the sidelines considering dipping their toes into shaving with a modern single edge razor, the General might be a good introduction...and I hope to make that introduction even easier. If you have interest in trying the razor, please see below.

NOTE: I have no affiliation with the manufacturer, I am simply a SE fanboy.

General requirements for participation
Active Shave Nook members in "good standing" are welcome to send me a PM regarding participating in the tour. I would suggest active and good standing infers you have been around TSN for at least a few months and are participating in the community. If you are active on other shaving forums and are new to TSN I will take that into consideration. And if you do not qualify today but have interest, you may become eligible as the tour unfolds...so please feel free to send me a message and I can add you to the "reserve" list.

Following are the rules that I have used for each of the tours I have hosted, which are simply intended to keep the tour fair, fun and safe.

1. Please try to limit your time with the gear to 7 days. This should be enough time for some quality shaves and impressions. There will be exceptions, and if you know ahead of time your schedule will be limited (e.g., vacation, job constraints, travel) please let me know so we can adjust the order and keep the momentum going.

2. The package will contain a Colonial Razor General, and several packages Feather Artist club blades so you can find which blade works for you.  Each member is invited to use one of each blade, so the package I am sending should allow up to 15 members to try the razor.  If we have more than 15 interested members I will send additional blades onto the road when we reach that point.

3. I am shipping the razor clean and sterilized. Please do the same before handing it off to the next member. Simple Green, soapy hot water, Barbicide and Scrubbing Bubbles are fine.  Please do NOT use boiling water or bleach on the razor.

4. Carefully wrap and ship the package as your means allow (e.g, USPS, UPS, FedEx). It will be shipping in a small Priority Mail flat rate box. If you ship via Priority Mail $50 insurance is included, which is sufficient for this tour. Total out of pocket expense to participate will be about $7.

5. Communicate. Please post in this tour thread when you receive the razor and when it ships.  Upon receipt, please contact the next person on the list in order to have their shipping information on-hand when your time with the razor is over.  Please PM me as needed or if you have questions. It is never fun to track you down if you are in possession of the razor and have gone off the grid.

6. Post reviews! Please share your impressions, good or bad, with your fellow TSN members.

7. Have fun and...go Shave Nook!

Thanks TSN!

Streamline Advice?

$

I recently acquired a very nice Streamline.

This morning I used it. It wasn't a great shave. Understand that my regular razor is Weber.

Certainly there are differeences in DE vs SE shaving. Still, I was expecting a better shave.

From you SE users, what tips or advice can you offer so that I get a great shave from the Streamline?

Razor handle length

Hello gents,

As we all like to mix and match different razors to different handles, what is your idea of a pleasing to the eye length for a handle excepting the shape?
I found YMMV and it will, for SE heads which are about the length of the blade i,e 50mm, the handle most pleasing to my eyes that brings balance to the head, has to be 95mm and for DE heads, 80mm.
What are your ideas about this? Overall balance of the razor function wise can be manipulated with using different weight handles.

The Cobra classic has several Allen headed screws (internal hex).  Does anyone know if these are Metric or Imperial sizes (the Allen key) and what sizes they are?  cheers.

Hello all,
Does anyone have any experience with this razor? I have one in the mail from Boolgoose and I wonder how aggressive it is. From a video from clean shaver I was informed that the pros will not do as well in it as the super pros or the Kai. On a DE I do prefer aggressive but on SE's I'd rather have medium. What concerns me, It's that is a hefty razor, tipping the scales at some 157gr, which might make it extra aggressive even with the mild or pro guard.
Any info please?

Entry to SE World as a Mild Razor Fan---Colonial General or GEM Featherweight/PB/G?

$

After doing an extensive journey through the world of DE over several years, I am curious to know how well of a shave I can get in comparison with a SE.

What I have learned in my DE journey is that the sensitive area of my neck cooperates best with the absolute mildest of razors like the EJ89 and Britist Flat Bottom Tech(and of course adjustable razors tuned down).

What I have read is that for the old school SE, the GEM Featherweight, Push buttom, or G Bar are about the best entry level models into the world of SE with a variety limited to about a 4 blade sampler available from Tryablade.

For more modern razors taking the Artist Club blades, the Colonial General also seems to be recently leading the way(in addition to a very attractive price structure) with a 7 blade sampler available from Tryablade.

For anyone who has experience with both and as it relates to availability of blades and ease of use(razor and blade maintenance).....which razor would be the best of these milder razors as entry to the SE world?

Opinions greatly appreciated!

A humble request regarding Artist Club razor talk

Hello,

I am hoping this does not come off as rude or pushy but I would greatly appreciate it is when discussing Artist Club razor experiences if you mention the blade that you are using.

Most people do this but when researching razors and I read that a specific razor is mild it would be much more informative to know what blade a person is using in that razor.

For me my Mongoose batch 1 (B1) is very mild with Feather Pro's but when I use Feather Pro Supers it is a much different shave and becomes more aggressive but will give me better overall results.

With so many new Artist Club razor's coming to market I love reading the comparisons, especially the people who have tried so many but without knowing what blades are being used I find it much harder to compare.

The RX in the daily shave rotation

It has been 4 months since I've purchased the RX (and the ATT se1). When I received the razor I began experimenting with different blades looking to make the RX a daily shaver. A few months ago I wrote that I found 2 blades that tamed this razor for me for daily use, the Kai Mild PreTouch and the Feather Pro Guard. I also changed out the handle to a thicker handle SS 90 x 14 which I prefer over the original.

As far as my razor rotation there were 7 until this past weekend in-which I realized I've only been regularly using 3-4 razor over the last 3 months. A Wolfman SS DC standard, BBS 1, the RX and the occasional usage of the BB. I also realized that I've been reaching for the RX more often then the others. For myself I strive for a smooth, close, no irritation daily BBS which the RX is giving me. I have to say you can have the best made razor in the world without the right blade the razor will not live up to your expectations and render nothing but disappointment in the razor. Put in the right blade and it will elevate that razor to the status of the gods, a most beautiful shaver. The RX with the right blade holds that lofty status for me these last months.

P.S. Last week I ordered the new Bullgoose AEvo which I will compare to my other DE's (not the SE), where there is an established high standard.

Happy shaving gents.
